Feared Freescale lay-offs makes SDI tighten relationships
The empoloyees at Freescale Semiconductor's East Kilbride plant fears major lay-offs as the Herald highlighted.
About 900 employees are at risk of losing their jobs at the Lanarkshire plant but so far Freescale has been quiet about this and no information about this has reached the employees except from the information published in the press.
SDI, a joint venture between economic development agency Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish Executive, has dealt closely over the years with the East Kilbride plant given its linchpin status within the electronics sector north of the Border. SDI has now decided to “remain in close contact with Texas-based Freescale Semiconductor to find out the company's future plans for East Kilbride".
