TomTom keeps suspense on chip supplier
Broker Jefferies & Co said that Holland-based GPS-provider TomTom would start buying chips from privately held California-based Global Locate.
TomTom declined comment on whether or not it would start buying global positioning system (GPS) chips from a second supplier alongside U.S.-based SiRF .
A spokeman at TomTom told Reuters that "SiRF is our only GPS chip provider now. We do not comment, and we never issue statements if and when we move to a second source."
TomTom has moved to second source suppliers before. As contract manufacturer it added Quanta to its original Taiwanese contract producer Inventec .
