Schneider Electric closing plant in Pennsylvania
Schneider Electric, a global energy management and automation company with U.S. headquarters in Boston, is closing its Leesport, Pennsylvania plant and eliminating 231 jobs.
According to media reports, the closure will be complete by end of June, and production will be moved to the company’s 334,000 sq. ft. Seneca, South Carolina plant. The company has not responded to media inquiries as to whether any portion of the Leesport employees will move to Seneca. No new information has been posted on the company’s website.
In a statement from corporate headquarters in Boston, a company spokesperson said, “These changes are in response to Schneider Electric realigning the product portfolio to other sites in order to better meet customer needs,” the Reading Eagle reports.
In February, AP reported that the Schneider plant in Peru, Indiana would close, and 306 unionized workers would be out of work.
The Kokomo Tribune reported that production from the Peru plant would be shifted to other states and to Mexico.
Schneider Electric conducts business in over 100 countries and reported revenue of USD 29 billion in 2018.
