Avnet to keep Memec brand

The global distributor giant Avnet will keep Avnet and its acquired fellow distributor Memec's marketing operations separated.
"A lot of people questioned our strategy in keeping Memec separate from Avnet," Phil Gallagher, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas told Purchasing.com. "For all intents and purposes we have two divisions out there. People are saying it's only a matter of time before we roll it back in, but there are no plans or any plans in the future to roll it back," he added.

"We didn't put a common line in both divisions so neither one of the companies will have the same line card. That stopped a lot of competition right out of the gate," he told Purchasing.com. "We go to market, serving customers and suppliers with two very separate selling divisions."
