AMD's new wafer fab opened
AMD has opened its new wafer fab in Dresden-Germany.
The new 300-mm fab, fab 36, were according to AMD's CEO opened "at the perfect time, when AMD has its strongest process position ever". The investments are this year expected to reach about $5 billion at the new fab 36. If the company continues to gain market shares Ruiz said it will need another fab by 2008. About 600 jobs are planned to be added to the new fab and by 2006 about 3000 workers will be employed.
