Foxconn raises wages in Shenzhen again

Taiwan-based EMS-giant Foxconn has increased monthly salaries for employees at its Chinese manufacturing hub in Shenzhen.

The raise, which was already announced earlier this year, will be implemented in October. Monthly wages for assembly line workers will be increased to CNY 2'000 (EUR 219); an increase of 66%. The majority of workers at the facility, 85% to be exact, are likely to benefit from the hike. "I cannot believe the company will raise salaries for a second time within a year. It means my monthly salary will double", Wang Xuchu, a Foxconn worker from the central Henan Province, told state media. The legal minimum wage in Shenzhen is CNY 1'100 per month (EUR 120).
