Stray-field robust 3D position sensor from S4sensors

The S4-3DB01 3D position sensor from S4sensors in a compact TSSOP-8L housing has a robust stray-field-immune design, a wake-up function and an I²C interface. It was developed for applications such as position and angle measurements, human-machine interfaces (HMI) and protection against unauthorised manipulation in measuring systems. Thanks to the patented back-side vertical Hall technology, the S4-3DB01 is able to provide the same high sensitivity for direct magnetic field measurements in all three dimensions.

The sensor has four 3D Hall clusters, each arranged one millimetre apart. This configuration ensures great versatility for a wide range of applications and also guarantees robustness against stray fields due to the differential measurement principle applied in all three dimensions.

The S4-3DB01 is equipped with an in-built wake-up function triggered by magnetic and temperature events, coupled with absolute and relative thresholds. In combination with low power consumption in inactive mode, the sensor is suitable for battery-powered applications and HMI applications in vehicles. Typical applications include industrial joysticks, 3D position sensing, HMI applications, buttons, levers, gear lever positions, door handles, door locks, window positions and white goods.

All operating modes as well as the configurable magnetic and timing parameters are accessible via a fast standard I²C interface with a frequency of up to 1MHz and via nine hardware configurable slave addresses. S4-3DB01 is AEC-Q100 qualified and operates in an ambient temperature range from -40 °C to +125 °C.
