ST-Ericsson rumoured to outsource handset chip production to TSMC and UMC
The newly completed joint-venture ST-Ericsson, is rumoured to outsource 65nm and 45nm handset chip mass production to Taiwanese manufacturers.
ST-Ericsson is to outsource to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), reports DigiTimes. ST-Ericsson has two packaging and testing facilities in Asia - Calamba in the Philippines (a spin-off from NXP) and Muar in Malaysia (a spin-off from STM).
