Thales Alenia Space wins satellite contract

The Brazilian government has selected Thales Alenia Space for the SGDC-program.

The joint venture Thales Alenia Space is to build a X- and KA-band satellite for both military and civil use. This follows after a year long competition where the government of Brazil has looked at how much technology the companies would transfer to Brazil’s space program, according to Spacenews. Brazil has budgeted some 314 million dollars for the SGDC-project. This, however, also includes launch. The other two finalists in the bidding was Space Systems/Loral (SSL), Canada, and Mitsubishi Electric, Japan.
