Flextronics and Jabil offer voluntary redundancy packages in Malaysia

Jabil and Flextronics have offered voluntary redundancy packages to their Malaysian employees.
Jabil Circuit made this offer to around 200 of its 5000 employees in its Penang facility, as cost cutting measures implemented so far have not been effective enough, reports thestar. Jabil has reduced working hours for outsourced foreign workers, cut overtime and imposed travel control. The company has even introduced a shorter working week.

Flextronics on the other hand is looking to reduce its workforce in Penang by around 5%. So far, about 100 employees - out of its 6000 strong workforce - have accepted the voluntary redundancy packages, the report continues.
