Are you getting the most productivity out of your drilling system?

Most modern PCB drilling systems use air-bearing spindles due to the need for extreme accuracy and high speeds up to 300,000 rpm. These motorized spindles rotate miniature drill-bits as low as 50 microns in diameter, and offer further benefits of very low friction, high stiffness and precise geometric control.

PCB drillers and OEMs use a wide range of techniques to quantify hole registration accuracy, including statistical methods such as the calculation of the process capability (Cpk). This is a critical validation measure used to qualify a particular drilling process or machine system; it is essential to understand the machine and process elements contributing to the process capability parameter. For successful process control and high-productivity, the whole drilling system--combining machine and spindle--must be carefully monitored and controlled.
