Nokia revise Finnish layoffs

Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia has revised the number of layoffs at its Finnish operations.

Nokia Oyj plans to reduce staff numbers by 500 in Finland, fewer than the originally 800 announced in an agreement with unions in December. The following units will be affected: Espoo with 120, Tampere with 198, Oulu with 103 and Salo with 82. Some of the employees originally affected by possible layoffs were transferred to other open jobs, reports Bloomberg. Employees were also offered buyouts in exchange for 5 - 15 months of salary, which effectively reduced the number of involuntary job cuts.
