Flextronics is laying off 14 workers in Ronneby, Sweden

During the year, Flextronics have moved production from Karlskrona to the nearby town of Ronneby. With a tightening economic situation, 14 people now have to leave the company.

Viekko Pirkkalainen, chairmen of IF Metall unit (a Swedish trade union), told evertiq that it is about the same as for everyone else right now: - It is due to the general downturn in the industry. There is really nothing special that happened, but as a contract manufacturer you don't have any original products, you have to follow the clients needs. That's all it is. If it turns downward for everybody else it will also affect us, and we have to adjust accordingly to the order intake. There were jobs cut last year too. How's the atmosphere on-site right now? - Of course it is always sad when people lose their jobs. But, at the same time, we just moved to Ronneby, with facilities better suited for our operations. So at the moment, the future looks promising. There are currently around 300 employees at Flextronics in Ronneby.
