Plexus on plans for Romania

In April this year, EMS-provider Plexus Corp. announced plans to construct a 280,000 square feet manufacturing plant in Oradea, Romania. A spokesperson for the company answered a couple of questions about the plan.

The planned facility will cost approximately $40 million, and the project is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2013. It is anticipated that staffing levels would grow from the current level of 245 to 500 when the facility is fully operational. Why is manufacturing in Romania important to Plexus? Plexus is committed to providing our customers a full Product Realization solution in the EMEA region. Our new manufacturing facility in Oradea, Romania, is an important element of this solution. The facility provides our customers a low-cost European manufacturing solution and compliments the other capabilities we have within the EMEA region and globally. How does this new facility integrate or fit strategically with Plexus' other facilities in Scotland and Germany? Have the plans for the Scottish and German facilities changed? The new manufacturing facility replaces our existing facility in Oradea, Romania. In addition to providing additional square footage to meet growing demand from our customers, we will be able to expand our capabilities. Our strategic plans for our Design Centers in Darmstadt, Germany and Livingston, Scotland as well as our manufacturing facility in Kelso, Scotland remain unchanged. We remain focused on growing the EMEA region by offering complete Product Realization solutions to meet the needs of our customers in region.
