1000 strike at IBM and Apple plant

Workers at a factory owned by Jingyuan Computer Group went on strike last week, protesting unreasonable overtime demands.

After the strike, the factory, located in Shajing , China, will reportedly reduce employee's overtime and allow overtime work on Saturdays. The factory produces material for Apple, IBM, LG, Tulip, Legend and Founder Great Wall. Workers at the plant told China Labor Watch, a New York based NGO, that the strike was over a rule requiring workers to work from 6 p.m. until 12 p.m., and sometimes until 2 a.m. the next morning, in addition to their regular work hours (7-11:30 a.m., 1-5 p.m.). This overtime could not be worked on Saturday, which would necessitate double wages in accordance with Chinese Labor Law. During the strike action, 1000 workers reportedly moved to block the National highway 107, but were stopped by police officers and riot police.
