Samsung to consolidate components divisions
South Korean electronics giant Samsung is reportedly combining its display and semiconductor groups into one unit.
Samsung is said to combine flat-panel display business with its semiconductor business again after spinning off both units into separate businessed in 2004. Both units combined are said to contribute 44% of revenue.
A WSJ report indicates that Samsung decision is based on the fact that its customers within the component business actively compete with the South Korean giant in other divisions, such as panel-making and consumer electronics.
