Driven by booming sales among Asian OEMs, global PC shipments surged by 22.7% in the 1Q/2010, marking the highest YoY growth in a quarter ever recorded by market researcher iSuppli.
Shipments in the 1Q/2010 totalled 81.5 million units, up from 66.5 million during the same period in 2009. Asian heavy weights Asustek (plus 136.2% in shipments compared YoY), Samsung (83.9%), Lenovo (58.5%) and Acer (47.1%) posted the strongest YoY growth among the Top10 OEM.
With a global market share of 13.3% (up from 11.1% last year), Acer was able to close in on Hewlett-Packard. With a global market share of 19.3%, HP managed to hold on to its lead. “While Hewlett-Packard retained its position at the top of the PC pile, Acer is advancing at an impressive rate,” Matthew Wilkins, principal analyst for compute platforms at iSuppli.
