Nokia to buy more from Taiwanese suppliers

Industry watchers estimate Nokia to buy approximately 200 million display panel sets from Taiwan based suppliers in 2008 and 300 million sets in 2009.
Taiwanese suppliers will fulfil Nokia’s display panel need by 40% this year and 60% next year. AU Optronics and Novatek, with unmatched production scale and technological capability in Taiwan, are seen to mainly benefit from Nokia`s increased need for low-priced components according to CENS.

Today, Nokia’s biggest display panel suppliers are AU Optronics Corp. (liquid-crystal display), Toppoly Optoelectronics Corp. (low temperature poly si (LTPS), Wintek Corp (color super-twist nematic) and Innolux Display Corp. (shifting to TFT type from CSTN), according to CEMS.

Sitronix Technology Co., Ltd. and OriseTech Co., Ltd. is supplying Nokia with CSTN drive ICs. Novatek Microelectronics Co., Ltd. has begun supplying it TFT drive ICs this year, according to CENS.
