76% of all chips sold in 2007 go to Top100 OEM
The market research group Gartner states that the top 100 branded electronics firms consumed 76% (worth around €133 billion) of all semiconductors that were sold in 2007.
The main application area is still the data processing segment with 37%, followed by communications electronics with 28%. The consumer electronics sector is third with 18%, followed by industrial with 9% and automotive with 8%.
In respect to companies, HP has shown the strongest demand in semiconductors with $6.5 billion, followed by Nokia, Dell and Samsung (which all showed more than $11 billion each in demand). However, all of these companies have a strong computer and/or mobile phone business.
