Negative trend in German<br>semiconductor market
The turnover in semiconductors in Germany in April – with a significant decrease in order inflow – was below that of March. At that, the turnover in April 2008 was 16% below the figures of April 2007.
Likewise minus 16% (corrected) was the turnover March 2008 compared to March 2007. Comparing the February figures, we will see a minus 10% difference this year.
Cumulative, the German growth stayed at minus 15% for the first 4 months of 2008, compared to the same period last year.
The Book-to-Bill-Ratio*), an indicator of the medium-term trend, was at 0.94 for April and with that significantly under the March figure and even more so under 1.00.
Reference: The stated figures refer (excluding the cumulative figures) to a three months average. Contingent upon a change in data collection at the beginning of 1999, the growth figures are three months provisional. That means that adjustments can occur within this period.
*) Denotes the ratio between order inflow and turnover. That means with a K/BL-Ratio of 1.10 – an order inflow of €1.10 for every €1.00 turnover.
