Employee at Sony Semiconductor infected with COVID-19

An employee at Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing’s Kumamoto Technology Center in Japan has been confirmed to be infected with COVID-19.

The company says that upon receiving a notification that a person outside of the company, whom the employee had been in contact with, tested positive, the employee had a PCR test on December 9 and tested positive on the same day. “Currently, the employee is in the hospital. We identified the close contacts as defined by our company regulations within the site and had them to stand by at home for 10 days from the contact date. We will continue to follow up observation,” the company writes in an update. Following the discovery, Sony Semiconductor went through necessary disinfection cleaning at the premises, and according to the company there was no impact on operations of it production lines.
