iPhone5 pre-orders top 2m in first 24 hours

There is apparently no stopping Apple. Pre-orders of its iPhone5 topped two million in just 24 hours, more than double the previous record of one million held by iPhone4S.

Apple is known for its secrecy when it comes to new - not yet released - gadgets. However, there is one area where Apple is forthcoming with information. Where others are shy about the number of pre-orders they received, Apple goes the full monty. Demand for iPhone5 exceeds the initial supply and while the majority of pre-orders will be delivered to customers on September 21, many are scheduled to be delivered in October. The iPhone5 is planned to go on sale in the US tomorrow (September 21, 2012), with 22 more countries to follow a week later. European customers will be delighted to know that Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland are on this initial list.
