Aspocomp report loss in first quarter

Aspocomp's first-quarter 2005 net sales came in, as expected, lower than in the same period of last year and were EUR 43.4 million (47.6), down 9%. The delivery volumes of both the Printed Circuit Boards and Modules segments were lower than the year-ago figures.

The drop in net sales was due largely to the weak performance of the Salo printed circuit board facility, the drop in the average price of printed circuit boards and the decrease in the delivery volumes of the Modules segment. Demand for high-tech HDI (High Density Interconnection) PCBs enjoyed continuing strong demand in Asia, and net sales generated by the HDI manufacturing unit at the Aspocomp plant in China increased by more than 20 percent on the previous year. Net sales of the PCB facility in Oulu were also up, by about 8 percent. The operating result was a loss of EUR -1.8 million (2.9). The main reason for the drop in earnings was the weakened result of the Salo plant. The result before taxes was a loss of EUR -2.1 million (2.5).
