Philippines to get a stronger<br>foothold as EMS region

Philippine electronics manufacturing firms are eyeing new prospects in Asean as market research points to the growing electronic manufacturing service (EMS) and original design manufacturing (ODM) industry projected to reach US$ 328.4 billion in 2010.

"The Philippines is well positioned to take advantage of the growth in EMS and original design manufacturing. We have talented engineers and our electronics companies are able to protect intellectual property, as well as meet their clients' time-to-market objectives," said Trade Secretary Peter Favila. To date, many global companies such as Intel, Texas Instruments and NXP (former Philips) host assembly and test facilities in the Philippines for microprocessors and digital signal processors (DSPs).
