BenQ closes all existing handset plants

BenQ is closing all of its existing global handset production bases to concentrate handset manufacturing at its new plant in Shanghai, China.

According to DigiTimes the Shanghai plant will be the new sole base for handset manufacturing. Construction of the plant started in March 2006 and it is expected to start volume production in the third quarter of 2007. Monthly capacity will be 1.8 million units.
