Chip sales at record level in September

Chip sales reached record levels in August but increased further in September.

Chip sales increased by 4.2 percent in September from August to reach $21.4 billion. That is also an increase by 9.3 percent from September last year. The strong chip sales is driven by the growing demand for consumer electronics. The DRAM shipments also increased because of the increasing use of the Windows Vista operating system. DRAM sales grew by 40 percent in September from September last year. Sales of microprocessors decreased 11 percent in value but increased in numbers.
