New AC-LED lasts for 80,000 hrs

A new light source called ”AC-LED” has been developed by Korean Seoul Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (SSC). This is the first of its kind the world has seen.

The AC-LED can be used in the existing lighting systems without any change. With this achievement, it will be expected to accelerate expanding lighting application. The product has a life time of 80,000 hours, and saves 80% of power. It does not contain any hazardous pollution defect such as lead or mercury. LED for AC enables usage in household directly without converter. The product is expected to save 60 billion kwh of electricity per year in 2010 thanks to the “LED for AC”. If conventional lamps would be fully replaced by “LED for AC” in 2010, it would save the energy from seven atomic power plants.
