Atmel to sell Grenoble unit

Atmel said it agreed to sell its Grenoble, France, subsidiary for $140 million cash.

The San Jose company said the sale to E2V Technologies PLC includes a manufacturing plant. Atmel will retain rights to its patented finger print scanning recognition technology. All other Grenoble products including image sensors and aerospace qualified microprocessors are included in the sale. The company expects to complete the transaction during the third quarter.
