Chinese train makers interested in Bombardier

Two Chinese train manufacturers – CSR Corp. and China CNR Corp. – are reportedly considering buying a controlling stake in Canadian Bombardier's train business.

Discussion are preliminary and the two Chinese – state-owned – companies may also determine not to proceed, according to a report in Bloomberg citing a person familiar with the matter. The two Chinese companies are in the middle of a planned merger and any – potential – deal to acquire Bombardier would happen after the completion of said merger. The report also states that Bombardier have contracted UBS Group AG and Citigroup to advise on a possible sale or initial public offering of the rail unit. Director, Communications, Isabelle Rondeau, told Bloomberg that the company won't comment on speculations but also said that the rail unit “is not for sale.”
