The golden age of electronics

Considering all the piles of electronic gadgets surrounding us – whether noticed or ignored by us – this should really be the 'Golden Age of Electronics'.

And if this really is the golden age of electronics, wouldn't that mean that now would also be the golden age for the EMS industry? When you think about it – how many companies were in fact a part of making that device in your hand a complete product? – This should really be the golden age. But is it really? Analyst firm Plimsoll released their report on the UK EMS industry just a couple of days ago, and its not painting a pretty picture. Of the 298 companies included in the report 133 companies continue to sell at a loss – for the second year running. On top of that 64 companies have gotten a ”Danger” rating and 31 a “Caution” rating in regards to their latest performance. One of the major issues with these serial losses is that they are adding to a congestion of the market – affecting the rest of the market and driving down profit margins. And we've already seen enough companies rise to the skies just to fade away – and go bankrupt. So if this is now, then when was the actual golden age?
