Video: Why hand soldering is still important
We dropped by the hand soldering competition at the Scandinavian Electronics Event to see how this years competitors stack up. Organizer, Lars-Gunnar Klang, and Note employee, Jörgen Torsson, talked about why hand soldering is still important.
Hand soldering still has a place in todays industry says Lars-Gunnar. So much of a place, he organized a whole competition to promote it.
At this years event in Stockholm, 20 people participated. Of these, 19 people produced functioning boards but only 5 passed the IPC 610 Class 2 revision E. Seems like there is still a bit of work to do.
Fourth place winner, Ljupce Talevski, from Hofman Teknik AB, was kind enough to take us through the process. It's a difficult art, requiring concentration and precision.
