Explosion at Kyocera facility in Japan

A casting furnace exploded at a Kyocera manufacturing facility in Japan. No injuries were reported.

The explosion occurred in the facility, which is used to produce solar cells, in Shiga Yasu (Japan) at just after midnight. A door was blown down and the ceiling was damaged, local media reports suggest. The cause for the explosion has not been determined and an investigation is under way. The solar cell manufacturing facility in Shiga Yasu started operation only in June 2010 and will likely be shut down temporarily for the investigation and the following reconstruction.
