M&A activities in EMS-industry level out
10 completed M&A transactions for the EMS-sector were recorded for the 2Q/2010, compared to 11 completed transactions recorded for the previous quarter.
The 6 EMS consolidations were taking up more than half of the recorded transactions (60% of total activity in the 2Q/2010). This is a considerable increase from the 1 activity recorded for 1Q/2010, reports consultancy Lincoln International. No OEM divestures (1 transaction in 1Q/2010) and no vertical / horizontal convergences (a noticable drop from 7 transaction in 1Q/2010) were recorded for 2Q/2010.
1 transaction was classified as EMS divestiture (also 1 transaction in 1Q/2010) and 3 transactions reported as private equity investments (1 transaction in 1Q/2010).
"The recent spike in EMS consolidations, combined with the lack of vertical / horizontal convergences indicate electronics companies are looking to focus on building their core competencies", the experts state.
The bulk of transactions occurred in the Micro Tier segment (9 transactions in total). The last transaction was categorised for Large Tier.
