M&A activities in EMS-industry increase in 1Q/2010

The 1Q/2010 saw 11 completed M&A transactions in the EMS-industry, compared to the 6 recorded transaction for 4Q/2009, writes analyst company Lincoln International.

“Overall, the economic conditions appear to have stabilized which has created an opportunity for companies to pursue strategic investments within the EMS sector”, the analyst company writes. 64% of these recorded transactions—representing 6 transactions—were categorised as vertical / horizontal convergences (3 transactions in 4Q/2009). There was only 1 EMS consolidation in 1Q/2010 (3 transactions in 4Q/2009); 1 EMS divestiture (none in 4Q/2009), 1 OEM divesture (none in 4Q/2009) and—finally—1 transaction classified as private equity investment (none in 4Q/2009). Most of the M&A activity occurred in the Micro-TIER segment, with 8 completed transactions (or 73% of total activity); 2 transactions in Large-TIER (18% of the total) and 1 transaction in the Mid-TIER segment (9% of total). ---- Image only for illustration purposes.
