EMS / ODM revenue (computer segment) to reach $99 billion in 2009
This year’s EMS / ODM revenue in the computer segment is estimated to reach $99 billion, according to a recent study by market researcher IDC.
The EMS-giants Flextronics and Foxconn (with a market share of 22% in 2008 the top supplier in this market segment) are most likely to keep their market share, but ODM companies – such as Quanta (Top2 in 2008 with a market share of 17%) or Asustek (Top3 with 16%) are said to focus more and more on the market, as netbooks receive considerable interest from consumers.
"Currently, there are five tier-1 notebook ODMs, but with several tier-2 ODMs doing well with netbooks and the two primary PC EMS firms moving into notebooks, the industry has to ask: "Will there be enough room for all of these competitors?", Michael Palma, senior research analyst at with IDC, told VentureOutsource.
