Charts: European EMS Industry 2005 - 2008
The 4th edition of the Pildal directory on the European EMS Industry has been updated with 2008 turnover and staff data.
Approx. 1.400 EMS companies with 1.500 sites are listed in the directory, which covers companies offering PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly).
Most EMS providers offer in addition other services as indicated on the figure. Excluded from the directory are companies focusing on such services.
The European EMS market researched in connection with the 4th edition of the Pildal directory peaked in 2007 with 28.025 MEUR turnover and 179.500 employees. This market declined by 6% in 2008. The chart depicts the development of the companies that were in business during all the years 2005 – 2008.
Companies that closed or went bankrupt during the period 2006 - 2008 had turnover of 2.318 MEUR in 2005. As a result, total 2005-production amounted to 27.774 MEUR.
We saw, however also the creation of new EMS providers in 2007 and 2008. Their turnover amounted to 1.022 MEUR in 2008 bringing the total in 2008 to 27.347 MEUR, practically identically to the level in 2005.
