Chart: EMS/ODM rankings show low scale
A recent report from iSuppli shows the preliminary 2007 revenue rankings for the largest electronics contract manufacturers.
The data suggests that the top20 EMS-providers were able to continue their market share expansion. The top10 companies increased 2007 sales by 19.2%, while the top10 ODM providers increased sales by 31.0%. This represents a combined $209 billion in annual revenues.
The figures are as follows: Foxconn +39.4%, Flextronics +15.5%, Jabil Circuit +12.1%, Sanmina-SCI -6,8%, Celestica-8.4% , Elcoteq +11.7, Benchmark +0.3%, Venture +32.8%, Universal Scientific +22.1%, Plexus +7.3%.
This means for instance that the 71% of the $21 billion sales increase during 2007 was generated by Foxconn alone, According to iSuppli.
However, the report also shows some areas of problems in this highly competitive market. This is for areas such as margin profiles, continued restructurings, managerial churn, capacity rebalancing, program disengagements and market share losses as the report states.
isuppli said that over the last months Flextronics, Celestica, Sanmina and Elcoteq have announced supplemental plant and headcount reductions to boost capacity utilisation.
