Leoni expands capacity with 2'600 jobs

Leoni continues to expand its production capacity in the Americas. The company opened a new plant for wiring systems in the Mexican city of Merida and plans to hire 2'600 additional staff.

"The new plant in Merida is a clear sign of our dynamic growth in America and we are the first foreign investor to set up a manufacturing facility with such a large number of industrial jobs in the Yucatan region," said Martin Stüttem, Leoni AG Board Member with responsibility for the Wiring Systems Division. The plant inaugurated in Merida is Leoni's third facility for wiring systems in Mexico. The company already operates sites in Hermosillo and Durango that manufacture cable harnesses for commercial vehicles and passenger cars. Merida's production includes cable harnesses for several passenger car models of a US-based customer and a manufacturer from Asia. Leoni currently employs around 500 people at the new location. By 2018, the company expects to employ up to 2'600 staff at full capacity. The new location has a production area of approx. 25'000 m2. The Merida plant expects not only to hire a large number of production workers in 2018, but also industrial, logistics and quality engineers, technical specialists and administrative staff. Leoni also plans to set up a Human Resources Services Center in Merida to support all sites in the Americas.
