ABB to relocate production to Poland

ABB is planning a restructuring of is site in Geneva (Switzerland). The union Unia fears a closure of the site.

The production of traction platforms for locomotives will be transferred to a facility in Poland, regional media reports suggest. This could affect up to 130 of the 180 jobs, according to Unia. There have been rumours of a relocation of up to 180 jobs from ABB Sécheron to Poland for some time now. "Given the threat of closure and the unexplained immediate departure of the director of ABB Sécheron SA [Ed.: Jean-Luc Favre] last week, the employees are demanding clarity", the union writes. On 31 October 2017, as a response to rumours of a relocation abroad, about 130 ABB Sécheron workers protested with a rally and a strike. The workers also criticised the management's lack of communication. However, according to an article in the AWP, the Group will continue to hold the engineering, research and development and prototyping of these traction platforms in Geneva. The business unit dealing with e-mobility will also remain in Geneva.
